Fayetteville woman, 69, pronounced dead at scene following Thursday afternoon collision

FAYETTEVILLE — A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Bragg Boulevard and the Interstate 295 off-ramp Thursday afternoon resulted in one fatality and injured another driver, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

The crash occurred around 1:40 p.m. when a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling southbound on Bragg Boulevard collided with a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis that had just exited onto Bragg Boulevard via the northbound I-295 off-ramp.

The driver of the Mercury Grand Marquis, 69-year-old Chong Hwa Otis of Fayetteville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin has been notified. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado sustained injuries and received medical attention.

The Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit is conducting a preliminary investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision. The busy intersection, which connects Fort Bragg traffic to one of Fayetteville’s major thoroughfares, has been the site of numerous accidents in recent years.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine contributing factors. No charges have been filed at this time.
