Over 130 criminal aliens arrested as federal authorities override local obstruction to protect public safety

Fayetteville-Fort Bragg – Federal immigration authorities have arrested over 130 illegal aliens in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of President Trump’s ongoing initiative to secure the nation’s borders and remove criminal elements.

The operation targets Charlotte due to its sanctuary city policies that actively obstruct federal immigration enforcement. Local officials, including Democratic Mayor Vi Lyles, have instituted measures preventing police cooperation with ICE and refusing to detain criminal aliens for transfer to federal custody.

This enforcement action follows the tragic murder of a Ukrainian refugee by an illegal immigrant on Charlotte’s light rail system this summer, underscoring the real-world consequences of failed sanctuary policies.

Despite declining overall crime rates, Charlotte’s explosive growth—largely driven by mass immigration—has created pockets of criminal activity among foreign-born populations. The city’s foreign-born population now exceeds 150,000, with most originating from Latin American countries.

Those arrested include individuals with documented gang affiliations and criminal histories including aggravated assault and theft. Border Patrol agents conducted targeted operations based on specific intelligence rather than random checks.

Democratic Governor Josh Stein criticized the enforcement actions, while Mecklenburg County Republican Party Chairman Kyle Kirby praised the operation as necessary for public safety and rule of law.

The Charlotte operation follows similar successful enforcement actions in Los Angeles and Chicago, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to immigration enforcement regardless of local political opposition.
