Repeat offender with violent history faces new trafficking charges; $150K bond set for suspect with prior federal, state convictions
FAYETTEVILLE — A multi-agency narcotics operation resulted in two arrests and the seizure of nearly 200 grams of crack cocaine Thursday along the 1500 block of Blan Street, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
The operation involved Fayetteville’s Gang Unit, Narcotics Unit, Emergency Response Team, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. During the search warrant execution, authorities recovered 195 grams of crack cocaine, $1,351 in cash, and a handgun.
Genevieve Butler, 31, of Fayetteville, was charged with trafficking cocaine by possession, trafficking by manufacture, selling cocaine, conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine, and maintaining a dwelling for selling controlled substances. She is being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
Danny Lee Jones, 41, also of Fayetteville, faces additional charges including possession of a firearm by a felon alongside similar drug trafficking counts. His bond was set at $150,000 secured.
Jones’ arrest marks the latest chapter in a lengthy criminal history spanning more than two decades. Records show:
- 2003: Sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a felon
- 2004: Received additional 27-month federal sentence for possessing a shank while incarcerated
- 2012: Charged with two counts of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping while in federal custody; later pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter
- 2020: Arrested for voluntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury
- Multiple convictions for larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, and common law robbery
“The Fayetteville Police Department will continue our strategic partnerships with federal, local, and state agencies to hold habitual offenders accountable for the harm they cause our community,” stated the department’s release.
The investigation remains active with additional information expected to be released as it develops. Both suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
