Local agritourism destination continues philanthropic mission with seventh round of Gives Back Program for Cumberland County nonprofits
FAYETTEVILLE — Sweet Valley Ranch, the 300-acre working farm and family attraction, is now accepting applications for its seventh annual Gives Back Program, offering $30,000 in grants to support Cumberland County nonprofit organizations facing ongoing funding challenges.
Founded by serial entrepreneurs Fred and Anita Surgeon in 2021, the program has already distributed over $240,000 to more than 20 local organizations. This year’s funding pool will award five general nonprofits $5,000 each and provide two faith-based organizations with $2,500 grants.
“We believe in the power of community and the incredible impact of local nonprofits that serve Cumberland County,” said Fred Surgeon. “This program allows us to support the growth and success of our neighbors who are addressing pressing community needs.”
The 300-acre ranch, located just outside Fayetteville, operates as both an agricultural enterprise and popular tourist destination. The property features over 350 animals including Quarter Horses, Highland cattle, and exotic birds, along with seasonal attractions like Dinosaur World, Backwoods Terror Ranch, and the Festival of Lights. The Surgens also maintain a USDA-licensed meat processing facility and offer ATV adventures through their Hills & Thrills tours.
Beyond its agricultural and entertainment operations, Sweet Valley Ranch has established itself as a significant philanthropic force in Cumberland County. The Gives Back Program represents one component of the family’s broader commitment to community support, which includes the David Surgeon Jr. Memorial Scholarship established in honor of Fred’s late father.
Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status serving Cumberland County can apply through November 21. Applications are available at sweetvalleyranchnc.com/gives-back, with winners notified in early December followed by an awards ceremony.
Cumberland County nonprofit leaders should visit sweetvalleyranchnc.com/gives-back to apply before the November 21 deadline. Families looking to support local philanthropy can visit the ranch for seasonal events and tours.
